I can't ride wednessday, so I decided to ride today instead of resting. I parked at Hains Point at about 830 and started changing when I realized I forgot clean socks for the second time in a row and would have to wear the pair I did the 7am and the 10am on Saturday, and 4 hours that included both sides of Mt Weather on Sunday. What's one more day?
So, I head out at 9 and do 3 hours. When I got back, the noon ride was starting, so I hopped in. I meant to cut out early to take a shower before class when Ken Young and some other DC Velo guys showed up about half way through. The speed picked up and I did 3 more laps. It was fun, a DC Velo guy would go, I would chase, another would go when I caught the first one, and so on until in the end I would sprint with Ken who beat me 2 out of 3 times. Great ending to a long day of training, but needless to say I had to go straight to class.
So, I am sitting in class and I keep smelling this awful smell. I looked around irratated wondering who the culprit was and eventually decided who it was. At the break, I sat farther away from him - but to my amazement I could still smell him! In my next class, I could still smell it and the realized, IT WAS ME! I guess wearing thoose socks for over 230 miles in three days did not help my hygene. I wonder if people in my classes could smell and knew it was me. God I hope not.
4 hours of cycling starting at 9am followed by class...how do you get away with that with children?!?ReplyDelete
Tell us the secret.
The secret is you get stationed away from your family for almost a year and when your reunited you end up working 12 hour days 6 days a week. Then, when the Army lets you go to school and only has you come in for physical training at 6am, it seems like your home all the time when they are used to hardly ever seeing you at all.ReplyDelete
Nasty...feet. I guess you Army guys are used to having that. I could probably wear my socks week after week and not get that stinky smell, however you were riding through the horse manure weren't you? Most of the socks I've worn, don't trap in any smells. What socks are you wearing? Some cheap polyester socks?ReplyDelete
Yep, I smelled you. I was sitting 2 rows over. Made me hungrier than naked TT photosReplyDelete
Chuck, thank you for your story about Ryan. I was a close friend to him for many years in Sac, we meet at Rio City, where we worked. I think of him often, and today couldn't get him off my mind so I googled his name and your article came up. Your memories were exactly what I needed today. I love remembering him and am glad I am not the only one. If you guys are ever in Sac racing and want to have some beers and talk about Ry, I'll get some of his friends together, just hit me up 916-442-2550, firstname.lastname@example.org, facebook also. THANKS again!ReplyDelete
