Jeff Cup

This year's Jeff cup was pretty easy to sit in, but hard to stay off the front. On the 4th lap I tried to shatter the field on the rise past the start finsh, and even manage to string it out and break it up into little groups, but before the next hill most everyone was back. On that same lap I got away with Mike Githens and we were drilling it, but still got caught - he is pretty strong. On the last lap on the climb Brian Butts and 3 others got away. DC Velo and Richmond Pro strung it out trying to real them in, but never made contact. A DC Velo guy tried a solo bridge before the turn onto the start finish. In the field, Ryan DeWald was on my wheel for a lead out. At 1K I started the lead out, and we flew by the DC Velo guy. At around 500 meters I heard DeWald laughing and when I looked back, we were well clear of the field , so we rode in easy side by side talking for 5th and 6th. Brian Got beat in the break away sprint in a photo finish. So, we got 2nd, 5th, 6th, a broken rear derailer hanger, 2 flat and outs and 2 crashes. Lame.

  1. 14 guys and you couldn't sweep the podium? Sucks.

  3. It was interesting to see the results. I watched you guys come towards the finish. I think it was Jason Meidof (DC Velo)all by himself, when you and 5 or 6 guys came blasting behind. Gues you overtook him and roared on. Interesting to see that the Battley Harley team didn't take all of the top spots, though I saw the carnage afterwards with the broken Derailleur hanger and the inspection of someone else's carbon top tube. You looked good before the finish. Congrats on your 5th place.
Guess you guys were pretty lame... what was up with the crases?

  4. crashes and jeff cup are synonymous...I came to a complete stop behind the crash which took out last years winner ( Fuentes ) I cordially picked up the LSV riders bike in front of me and said heres your bike ( I think his leg slowed me from 2 mph to 0 ..and as I rode off I encouraged dave to finish off the event after giving him an assesing look 2 see how he was...and yeah I was soo done from the bridge effort that even though I was on Dewalds wheel into the final K I had nothing to give and ...it was painfull and humbling..but good ride Chuck, Brian, and Ryan..even more humbling hearing bout ya'll chuckling cest la vie

  6. Chuck,

Why didn't you guys make the race hard! 65 tired guys that don't even sprint fighting for wheels 5k from the finsh = CRASH....too bad Dave and I got caught up in it - think he's OK, my bike is trashed. Anyway, nice finish for you and Dewald...see you Sat!
